Oregon’s Unemployment Rate Among Highest in the Nation
July 22, 2026Oregon’s June 2026 unemployment rate was tied for the highest in the nation, along with California, Connecticut, and Washington. At 5.2%, it was a percentage point higher than the national rate of 4.2%. With a rate of 3.7%, Idaho was Oregon’s only neighboring state below the nationwide rate. Nevada was tied for the second highest rate in the country at 5.1%.
Oregon’s Unemployment Rate Ranking Unusually High
Over the last decade, it’s been rare for Oregon’s unemployment rate to be higher than so many other states. Before 2023, Oregon’s rate was typically more middling. In 2023, Oregon’s rate began rising quicker than in most other states. Since 2025, Oregon’s unemployment rate has consistently been one of, if not the, highest rate in the nation.
