Work from Home Workforce: Klamath and Lake Counties

The COVID-19 pandemic profoundly reshaped the nature of work across many sectors of the economy. Employers that were once hesitant to institute work from home policies had to do so out of necessity, and those that already had them in place expanded them. What was once niche became more normalized. Are more people working from home now compared with 10 years ago in Klamath and Lake counties?The share of the workforce that works from home has been stable in Klamath County. In 2013 approximately 1,500 individuals or 6% of the workforce worked from home. This figure decreased modestly in 2018, followed by an uptick to over 2,200 (8%) in 2023. 
The share of the workforce that works from home decreased by a quarter in Lake County. In 2013 approximately 450 individuals or 14% of the workforce worked from home. This figure decreased modestly in both 2018 and 2023 to just over 300 (10%).
 
Over the same period, the state and country experienced rapid increases in the share of workers working from home over this 10-year period. Oregon’s share jumped from 6% to 17%, and the United States’ share increased from 4% to 13%.
