Work from Home Workforce: Josephine and Jackson Counties

The COVID-19 pandemic profoundly reshaped the nature of work across many sectors of the economy. Employers that were once hesitant to institute work from home policies had to do so out of necessity, and those that already had them in place expanded them. What was once niche became more normalized. Are more people working from home now compared to 10 years ago in Josephine and Jackson counties?Graph showing Share of Workers Who Worked From Home, Josephine County The share of the workforce that works from home more than doubled in Josephine County over the decade. In 2013 approximately 1,700 individuals or 6% of the workforce worked from home in Josephine County. This figure increased modestly in 2018, followed by a marked uptick to nearly 3,700 (11%) in 2023.Graph showing Share of Workers Who Worked From Home, Jackson County The share of the workforce that works from home also nearly doubled in Jackson County. In 2013 approximately 6,200 individuals or 6% of the workforce worked from home in Jackson County. This figure increased modestly in 2018, followed by a marked uptick to nearly 11,800 (12%) in 2023.

Over the same period, the state and country experienced rapid increases in the share of workers working from home over this 10-year period. Oregon’s share jumped from 6% to 17%, and the United States’ share increased from 4% to 13%.
