Work from Home Workforce: Coos and Curry Counties

The COVID-19 pandemic profoundly reshaped the nature of work across many sectors of the economy. Employers that were once hesitant to institute work from home policies had to do so out of necessity, and those that already had them in place expanded them. What was once niche became more normalized. Are more people working from home now compared with 10 years ago in Coos and Curry counties?Graph showing Share of Workers Who Worked From Home, Coos County The share of the workforce that works from home has been stable in Coos County. In 2013 approximately 1,600 individuals or 7% of the workforce worked from home. This figure dropped to about 1,500 (6%) in 2018, followed by an increase to above 1,900 (8%) in 2023.Graph showing Share of Workers Who Worked From Home, Curry County The share of the workforce that works from home nearly tripled in Curry County. In 2013 approximately 600 individuals or 7% of the workforce worked from home. This figure increased modestly in 2018, followed by a marked uptick to above 1,500 (13%) in 2023.
 
Over the same period, the state and country experienced rapid increases in the share of workers working from home over this 10-year period. Oregon’s share jumped from 6% to 17%, and the United States’ share increased from 4% to 13%.
