Oregon Jobs in 2024: A Wage Data Perspective
August 26, 2025In 2024, Oregon’s industries provided 3,065,600 jobs, a decline of 46,000 (-1.5%) over the prior year. Four broad industries gained jobs, while the remaining industries saw declines. Health care and social assistance (+15,000), local government (+4,300), retail trade (+1,300), and state government (+600) all added jobs. At the other end of the spectrum, leisure and hospitality (-4.7%; -19,300 jobs), financial activities (-4.3%; -5,000 jobs), and manufacturing (-4.1%; -10,400 jobs) experienced the greatest percentage changes in job losses.
The median hourly wage of all jobs rose from $24.24 to $25.54 in 2024 – a year-over-year increase of 5.4%. All industries saw their median hourly wages increase, and all industries except for information increased more than inflation, translating to real wage gains over the year for most industries. The largest wage increases in the private sector occurred in construction (7.8%), natural resources and mining (7.4%), and other services (7.1%). Information saw the smallest increase over the year at 0.3%, followed by transportation, warehousing, and utilities at 3.4%.
In 2024, 40% of all jobs paid at least $30 per hour. Over 70% paid at least $20 per hour – much larger than the share (5%) that paid less than $15 per hour. Most hourly wage classes posted job gains, with the exception of those paying less than $15 per hour and those paying less than $20 per hour. With the annual increases in the minimum wage that began in July of 2016, the number and percentage of jobs paying less than $15 per hour began to decrease from year to year. Now, fewer than 152,500 jobs pay less than $15 per hour.
The wage categories paying at least $20 per hour experienced gains in 2024. The $60 or more wage category saw the largest year-over-year percentage increase in number of jobs at 10%. The five remaining hourly wage categories all saw a minimum of a 2% increase in the number of jobs.
